Non-Practising Licensure

The YRNA offers (3) non-practising licensure categories:

 

1. Non-Practising

Non-practising licensure is designed for former, current and prospective YRNA members to retain their membership with the YRNA. As part of the fee, YRNA non-practising members are entitled to YRNA membership benefits only- this membership class does not provide benefits to the Canadian Nurses Association or the Canadian Nurses Protective Society.

2. Associate Basic

Associate Basic membership is designed for former, current and prospective YRNA members to retain their membership with the YRNA. As part of the fee, YRNA associate basic members are entitled to YRNA membership benefits and membership with the Canadian Nurses Association. This membership class does not provide benefits to the Canadian Nurses Protective Society.

3. Associate Plus

Associate Plus membership is designed for former, current and prospective YRNA members to retain their membership with the YRNA. As part of the fee, YRNA associate basic members are entitled to YRNA membership benefits, membership with the Canadian Nurses Association, and membership benefits with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society. 

 

Fees and Change of Licensure Category

 

A nurse holding a Non-Practising membership may upgrade to Active Practising membership by payment of the balance of practising fees, providing that that he/she demonstrates that he/she meets all the requirements for Active Practising registration. 

A nurse holding Active Practising registration who chooses to downgrade to Non-Practising membership will not be refunded for the difference between the two membership categories.

Requests to upgrade or downgrade for this membership category must be received in writing to the YRNA. Requests to cancel an upgrade or downgrade for changes between active practicing and non-practising must be received in writing to the YRNA. No refunds will be provided if a nurse chooses to change their mind after the membership change has been made.

The member is also responsible for any costs associated with verification where applicable.

A processing fee is not applied for any upgrade or downgrade. 

 

Membership Entitlements and Documentation Requirements

If a YRNA members opts for any category of non-practising licensure, they are not entitled to use the title of RN or NP in the Yukon.

If the member wants to upgrade from non-practising to active practising and have practiced in another jurisdiction, the member will still be required to provide an employer reference and verification from the jurisdiction(s) where they have been practising. An employer reference and verification may not be required if the member has NOT worked in another jurisdiction during the time they have held non-practising licensure with the YRNA. This requirement is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The Registrar may require current verification(s) and employer reference(s) for this upgrade as they deem necessary.  

A non-practising member in any non-practising category is entitled to:

 

a.     Use the title ‘non-practising member’;

b.    Attend and participate in all meetings of the Association;

c.     Be appointed as a member of a committee of the Association.
